vitsoe.com has a great article on the 10 Design Commandments of 1960′s Braun industrial Designer, Dieter Rams. The 10 commandments state that:

  • Good design is innovative
  • Good design makes a product useful
  • Good design is aesthetic
  • Good design helps us to understand a product
  • Good design is unobtrusive
  • Good design is honest
  • Good design is durable.
  • Good design is consequent to the last detail.
  • Good design is concerned with the environment.
  • Good design is as little design as possible.

It’s well worth reading the article in full, and seeing how wonderfully timeless Rams’ product designs are. Like these speakers below, which were designed over 50 years ago.

Dieter Rams’ work is considered to be a huge inspiration for Apple’s chief product designer, Jonathan Ives. The similarities are definitely there.
