Can you make sales from Twitter?

So I was looking for some nerdy stuff on the internet just the other day. PSD to WordPress conversion services, if you must know.

So i mentioned it on Twitter:

Not long after, I received this @ reply:

OK … so I don’t know this person. They found me, I’m guessing, through some sort of automated twiitter search.

So sure. I checked out their website. Looks OK. So they’re instantly in my consideration set.

But ShopHTML, the brand I was conversing with, took it further:

The conversation went on … I won’t bore you with anymore details.

Like wise, when I recommended a capsule hotel in Kyoto to a friend for her upcoming Japan trip:

I receive this polite, responsive and personable note from the hotel (they’re called 9hours.jp, by the way, you should check them out):

So here’s two examples of brands. On the other side of the world to me. Trying to help me out, and yes, make a sale as well.

There was nothing creepy about it. It wasn’t spammy, and the person on the other end was acting just like a person.

And it struck me. You can use Twitter as a marketing tool. Even a sales tool. As long as you’re helpful and non-intrusive, it’s a perfectly good way for people to find new customers and generate leads.

The marketing takeout here is simple. You just have to follow one rule. Don’t be a dick.

Stick with that rule you’ll get along just fine.

A few changes around here

Ok, I’m going to mix things up a bit on this blog. Starting with a new theme. And a new start to this blogging thing. Just like I promise every 6 months.

And a mixtape, which I posted on my Tumblr a little while ago.

Ok, here it is … My very first ever tumblr mixtape. Complete with front and backcover. Take it with you into your autumn or spring, whatever it may be for you.

How would I describe it? Upbeat in a melancholy way. A bit electronic. At times icelandic. With lots of the cool bands. And not complete without a Wings song. Real hipsterlike.
