I've been recharging my little introvert battery today, and came across the work of Kohei Sugiura. You should really check out his work if you're not familiar.

I thought it could be a fun experiment to create some visual animations, using Suguira's pieces as inspiration. I used Cursor, V0 and Goose to create 3 animations, as below.

I'm no motion design expert. And though I do have a foundational understanding of animation principles, this was more an exploration into whether i could quickly spin up some experiments that convey a feeling, without needing to manually adjust timing, rhythm, and easing.

I created these pieces as a reminder to spend more time playing with technology. Trying out new tools. Having fun. I'm sharing the results here for fun and posterity.

Graphic Design 06, 1962 (Animation - Cursor)

I started with this magazine cover, published in 1962. I really wanted to create some animation that varied the space between lines, both vertically and horizontally. I used Cursor to help me build this.

I was really hoping to convey a sensation of breathing … each side of the image to feel like a lung. It din't work out that way, but I was still happy with the output.

Design (Japan), 062, 1964 (Animation - v0)

For this next piece I was hoping to create a feeling of rain. Again, not quite like the original, bun a fun result that took about 5 minutes to create. I used V0 to make this one.

From the article, 'Japanese Modernism'.

I'm not sure the year that this piece was made, but I love it. For this final animation, I used Goose to try and create a pulsing animation. This was the result:
